Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
BPH is a noncancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause weak urinary stream, difficulty starting urination, incomplete emptying, frequency, urgency, and nighttime urination. BPH is one of the most common conditions affecting aging men.
Evaluation may include symptom assessment, urinalysis, PSA testing when appropriate, and assessment of urinary flow or bladder emptying.
Treatment ranges from lifestyle changes and medications to minimally invasive BPH procedures and surgical therapies, depending on prostate size, symptoms, and patient preferences.
